Stay out of the sun! Use sunscreen! The sun causes premature aging! These are statements that are ingrained in our brains so why do we love to have that sun-kissed glow so much. It's considered healthy and beautiful to have a tan. I don't think that will change any time soon so if we have to stay out of the sun, I guess a makeup bronzer is the next best thing.

Bronzer's can mimic the sun's effects and when applied correctly will give you that much desired summer tanned look.

Here are a few easy application steps:

If you're going to use a bronzer, make sure to keep your other makeup simple and natural. You wouldn't want to use a coppery lipstick and eyeshadow with bronzer. Use colors that enhance your skin tone and don't make your face look like an Oscar. Use sheer lip colors and warm brown or black eyeliner.

Remember, a little goes a long way. Bronzers are meant to add warmth and light color to your skin. Keep your bronzer within two shades of your natural skin tone and choose a color that is not too orange or frosted. Too much bronzer could make your skin look splotchy.

When using a powder bronzer just lightly dust your face with the bronzer using a large fluffy brush. Dip the brush in the bronzer and tap off any excess. Then apply powder to areas that the sun would naturally tan: bridge of nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. Make sure to have it well-blended. Powder bronzer's work best for oily complexions.

Use a cream or stick bronzer if you have dry skin or would like a dewy glow. Apply these using your fingers or a sponge. Blend the bronzer by using circular motions. Work in layers when applying color. Start light and build from there. Top off the look with some rosy cheek color on the apples.

Bronzer makeup is a great trick to having that appealing summer tan without the harsh rays of the sun. The right application can easily be achieved with a little practice but if you accidentally bronze too much just dab over the unwanted color with a little loose powder to lighten the look. Have fun and happy bronzing.
