Are you confused about concealer? What is it and why would you use it?
Well as the name implies, concealer makeup can help to hide facial flaws and spots from being
seen. Since it's thicker than foundation, concealer's main benefit is to cover any dark
patches, pimples, and other facial imperfections.
Even if you don't have perfect skin, with
the correct use of concealer, you can look like you have a flawless complexion.
There are many different types so it's important to pick the right one and shade for your
skin.
Stick or solid concealers are perfect for covering scars, blemishes and dark circles. It's a
thicker, denser form of foundation so it's important to blend evenly and not apply too thick.
Since it is thicker, the concealer could actually accentuate fine lines and wrinkles if not
applied smoothly and evenly. Dabbing some on
the area you want to cover and then using
either your ring finger, a brush or sponge to blend should do the trick. They will provide
moderate coverage and can easily be used "on the go". Just throw it in your purse and have
it for touch-ups throughout the day.
A liquid concealer is more suitable for larger areas of coverage. It's also good for mature
and dry skin. Again, make sure to blend the concealer for the best coverage.
If using foundation over the concealer, the color should be one shade lighter than the
foundation. They will work together to provide a beautiful, smooth finish.
If you won't be
using foundation over your concealer, try to match it to your individual skin tone. This can
sometimes be difficult because typically concealer isn't available in as many colors.
It's
important to not choose a concealer that is too light because it can actually accentuate the
flaws you're trying to cover. So be careful on your color selection.
It's best to use one
that contains some yellow pigment too as most of us have that color in our skin tone. If
trying to cover reddish areas, you can pick a green concealer. The green counteracts the
red.
Here are some tips to applying concealer:
1. Always moisturize your face before applying concealer. It will make the application much
easier and your finished look will be smoother and better blended.
2. Start by primeing the eyelids with your concealer before your eyeshadow application. Use
a brush and cover the whole eyelid with concealer. Take a sponge and then blend. You don't
want any lines. A pencil concealer will provide good coverage and go on smoothly.
3. Make sure to remove any eyeshadow droppings from under your eye before you start the next
step of covering blemishes and dark spots. Lower your chin and look up in the mirror to find
any shadows on your face. Look for dark areas under eye and around nose. Using a pencil
concealer you can basically just color around the dark areas. Color all the way under eye up
to lashes. Make sure to Blend, Blend, Blend. Use a sponge lightly to press in the
concealer. Remember the spots around the edges of your nose and also the bridge. Putting
concealer on the bridge will bring light to the center of your face.
4. After you're done with the concealer, you can apply the foundation. If any dark areas
are still present after this application you can apply more concealer for better coverage.
Another secret is to apply a little more concealer under the eyes to give an extra little
pop.
5. Never rub your concealer. It's best to pat or dab. A concealer brush is also great for
getting into smaller areas and providing a more natural coverage.
If you are struggling with your complexion or would just like to have a flawless makeup
applied look. You need to be using concealer. It's one of the best kept secrets in the
makeup industry and will hide most of our imperfections so we don't have to be embarassed by
our looks.
